[ A long time for Caleb is what, two decades at the very most? If Essek were more petty (or perhaps more petty towards Caleb, he's plenty petty to others) he might scoff--its been far longer for him, and he feels the weight of it heavy on his shoulders.

It's different for them. He knows it is. Caleb, whatever his secrets and responsibilities are, can't possibly match his own, surely.
